Money – The Main Obstacle to Vacations
Everyone needs a vacation. Vacations are
essentially the time of the year when we have a change from the
normal routine and are allowed uninterrupted time with the special
people in our life. This is the time to unwind and be free from
obligations. We live in a world where being too busy to enjoy
ourselves has become the norm. It would probably amaze you to
know how many people will have weeks upon weeks of vacation time
banked with their employers. And now with increasing frequency,
when we do take vacations, we often bring work along with us,
keeping ourselves essentially still in the work mindset we’re
trying to escape. This is unfortunate for several reasons.
- Vacations promote creativity. A good vacation can help us to reconnect with ourselves; giving an opportunity for self-discovery and helping us get back to feeling our best.
- Vacations stave off burnout. Workers who take regular time to relax are less likely to experience burnout, making them more creative and productive than their overworked, under-rested counterparts.
- Vacations can keep us healthy. Taking
regular time off to ‘‘recharge your batteries,” thereby
keeping stress levels lower, can keep you healthier.
- Vacations can strengthen bonds. Spending time enjoying life with loved ones can keep relationships strong, helping you enjoy the good times more and helping you through the stress of the hard times.
The bottom line is that taking a good amount of time away from the stresses of daily life can give us the break we need so that we can return to our work and usual routines refreshed and better equipped to handle whatever comes our way.
If vacations are so important to our well being, what prevents so many people from taking time off?
Money is the biggest vacation obstacle.
Many believe vacations are something they can do without so
they don’t even consider one. Perhaps stressed-out, over-worked families should change their cry from, “we can’t afford a vacation,” to “we can’t
afford NOT to take a vacation.”
Cheap is a relative term. You may be trying
to find a luxury vacation at the lowest possible price tag. Or
you may truly have limited funds to spend on your family’s
vacation. Either way there are tips that should prove helpful
and some ideas you may not have considered.
